Coping with Disappointment


Disappointments are inevitable, and the way we deal with them is usually a defining second in our lives. How we reply to disappointment is usually influenced by our upbringing; some individuals search to keep away from disappointment by underachieving (setting their expectations completely low) whereas others search to keep away from it by overachieving (setting their expectations unattainably excessive). No matter which approach we lean, we will be taught to reply healthily to disappointment by adopting a coping type that seeks to grasp what occurred, checks whether or not our expectations have been cheap, reevaluates our perceptions and behaviors, and seeks constructive options as an alternative of dwelling on the previous. Introspection may be useful, however rumination is usually not. Though disappointment is inevitable, being discouraged is at all times a selection.
